ITU (International Telecommunication Union) said that its new standard will herald the arrival of the era that consumers can buy set-top boxes and plug and play in retail stores. Defined by ITU-T as "multimedia services such as TV / video / audio / text / graphics / data distributed on IP based networks, trying to support the required quality of service (QoS) / quality of experience (QoE) level, security, interactivity and flexibility". As it is the most important business case and driving force for the deployment of next generation network (NGN), this new standard is very important
This standard - itu-ty.1901 Recommendation specifies high-level requirements for supporting IPTV services, including requirements for service provision, QoS / QoE, service and content protection, middleware, content, network and terminal system. Y. 1901 and previously approved itu-ty.1910 recommendations - "IPTV functional architecture" and other ITU-T recommendations related to IPTV constitute a batch of preliminary IPTV standards for equipment manufacturers (including consumer electronics suppliers) to launch standardized IPTV products. The application of ITU-T products will enable service providers to provide value-added services such as traditional (linear) TV, VOD and interactive TV on IP based management networks (such as NGN).
Y. The development of 1901 is international. Management institutions, service providers and equipment manufacturers in many countries are active participants, not limited to Canada, China, France, Japan, South Korea, the United Kingdom and the United States.
